The In Exchange team includes senior level executive experience as well as programme/project management from both the private and public sectors. We offer the ability to support the following:
Our team offers expertise across a range of critical topics related to international development and relations. We have direct experience working on climate change, water, resource management, agriculture and pastoralism, environment, security, and gender analysis and social inclusion. In Exchange and the Climate Risk Institute submitted the winning proposal to the GAC-funded Climate Action Africa programme for a 12-month project assessing and implementing an innovative financing scheme, the Adaptation Benefits Mechanism (ABM). The ABM supports sustainable adaptation interventions, enhances biodiversity protection and engages youth, women, and marginalized groups in solutions. This project will target priority areas in São Tomé and Príncipe, while also contributing valuable evidence and insights to inform the application of the ABM in other climate-vulnerable countries worldwide. Acting as the Adaptation Sector Specialists, we are responsible for:
This project is underway and will conclude in December, 2025.
Together with the Climate Risk Institute, we delivered an 8-month TA programme developing a pathway to climate-resilient agricultural systems, using transformative gender-positive approaches, while strengthening the local NGO, Participatory Approaches for Integrated Development (PAFID), and other stakeholders. The programme involved a 5-phase framework proposing an effective, risk-based Parametric Insurance scheme and scaling up low-carbon mechanized agricultural technologies, while reducing inequality, increasing incomes, and providing opportunities for women, youth, and other marginalized people. In Exchange provided the Team Leader and International Climate Specialist for the programme. Specifically, we were responsible for: providing strategic oversight to the team, public communications, technical guidance and quality assurance/quality control, and identifying recommendations on technological needs and climate risk insurance in rural Kenya.
This project is underway and concludes in May, 2025.
With support from the Canada-funded Climate Action Africa Project (CAA), In Exchange led a team providing technical assistance to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Somalia (MOECC) for the design of their climate finance strategy. We partnered with the Climate Risk Institute (CRI) on this assignment. Our work included organising over 50 consultations, leading missions to East Africa, preparing a gender assessment, maping key stakeholders, and building a viable project pipeline for potential finance. This work was done in alignment with ongoing donor efforts in Somalia including with Denmark; FCDO; GAC; UNDP and the World Bank.
The climate finance strategy was concluded in February, 2025.
The DFAT funded Australia-Indonesia Partnership for Infrastructure Program (KIAT) supports work on transportation and water in Indonesia. KIAT is run by DT Global. In Exchange was hired as a sub-contractor to Cowater International to be the Senior Technical Advisor for KIATs work with water utilities to support the development of their climate action plans. Our role was to supervise a team of Indonesian water sector specialists in the development of risk-based climate action plans for six water Utilities (PDAMs) in Bandung, Palembang, Wonosobo, Magetan, Pesisir Selatan and Banyumas. We were responsible for QA/QC of all technical inputs, the review of climate information and water sector analysis, MEL design, costed adaptation options and assessments based on field visits, consultations, and literature reviews. As of May 2024, five of the action plans have been concluded and are endorsed by their respective PDAM boards, with one under finalisation. The work received favourable reviews from DT Global KIAT Staff as well as DFAT.
This project concluded in June, 2024.
We have been engaged to act as the third-party monitor of a portfolio of Global Affairs Canada projects in East Africa focused on private sector investment into women-owned enterprises across Africa. In total, we are monitoring a portfolio of five projects led by the AECF, Acumen Fund, Renew Capital (2 projects) and MEDA. In all, the projects cover 20+ countries across Africa. The projects are supported by the Pan-African Program at GAC and cover a wide range of sectors, including agriculture, fisheries (Blue Economy), women-focused enterprises and services (such as maternal health), and financial services. Specific responsibilities include: Conducting monitoring visits to review project work and guide project teams; supporting learning processes for both projects and the GAC team; advise Canada on future investments in the sector and review evaluation approaches (reports and ToRs) to guide their development.
This project is ongoing and concludes in 2028.
Our portfolio of technical experience includes climate change analysis, water resources, agriculture, fisheries, community-based adaptation, labour, agriculture and pastoralism sectors. We work in fragile and conflict affected states that are some of the most vulnerable to climate change. Our geographic areas of focus include Sub-Saharan Africa (Senegal, Burkina Faso, Somalia, Kenya, Mali, Ghana) and Asia (Cambodia, Vietnam, Indonesia).
